Tulips in Asia's largest tulip garden in Srinagar bloom in advance this year. Usually these flowers bloom in the last week of March but due to an increase in temperature during first week of March in Kashmir, tulips bloomed earlier. The garden with over-million flowers of more than hundred varieties on the foothills of Zabarwan hill range on the banks of Dal Lake is being thrown open for public at the end of March every year, but this season, Garden was thrown open on 20th March.
Tulip lovers who every year come to Kashmir to have a glimpse of these colourful tulips had to reschedule their visits. Subartu Chakarvarti is visiting for last three years during the tulip season to Kashmir. He had to make his trip in advance by a week to see the Tulips bloom.
He said, " last year I saw these tulips in bloom on 8th of April when I was here but this year my friend from Srinagar called me 10 days back to reschedule my visit." Tulips are considered most delicate and sensitive flowers on earth and can grow in specific weather conditions. The weather of Kashmir in the end of March is perfect for these flowers to bloom and they are among the first blooming flowers of the Valley. The famous tulip garden of Srinagar earlier known as Siraj Bagh was developed and expanded in 2005 by then Chief Minister Gulam Nabi.
